Texting is one of the most dangerous things you can do while driving. It is the most dangerous thing you can do with a cell phone while driving.

A recent study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that texting while driving makes you 20 times more likely to have an accident. The reason is that when composing a text, drivers take their eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds. That is the equivalent of driving the length of a football field at 55 mph without looking at the roadway.

Based on this, you can see why more and more accidents are caused by people who are texting — they simply are not looking where they are going. They weave in and out of lanes, do not see other cars and do not see pedestrians.

At Bailey and Galyen, we encourage our clients and readers to drive safely. Let the texting wait until you are stopped. Nothing you need to text is worth risking your life or the lives of innocent people.

We want you to care about you as much as we care about you.

Have a safe Thanksgiving and Christmas season.
